Beyond Roles & Responsibilities

Almost a year ago I set forth a pie-in-the-sky goal, as I stepped out of my career and into a new chapter of life.

To one day ride a motorcycle through the Himalayas.

Como muchas intenciones, the pie-in-the-sky was placed in a bottom shelf.

Life unfolded: building something new, expanding my coaching network and offerings, riding throughout the Midwest and into Canada, time with family and friends, pasándola tranquilo, and at the same time, staying present to injustices I refuse to ignore.

Then this morning, my riding Compadre called.

He’d done the research. Studied the routes. And made the recommendation for our trip.

11 days.

Over a thousand miles.

Riding across Bhutan.

This fall.

Now there’s a specific shift, not professional, not familial, but personal:

Building stamina.

Transitioning from my Yamaha bagger and Honda cruiser to an adventure bike.

Letting endurance grow, mile by mile throughout the year.

No urgency. Just preparation. Pura preparación.

My Compadre’s call to action was a reminder of how easily we postpone what’s purely ours, and how meaningful it is when we don’t.

So I’ll ask you the same question I’m holding today:

What’s one thing you’re doing this year that’s just for you, beyond roles, beyond responsibility?

In other words:

Y, para ti, ¿que?

And, what about for you?

Sometimes those choices aren’t distractions from life.

They’re how we remain fully alive within it. Viviéndola de corazón para afuera.

And with the warmup of weather the next couple of days, I’m going for a few rides to small-step the endurance building.

Pasos chicos, y adelante con meta a las Himalayas.
