The Moment

It was a good week.

Projects moved along, and I had a good conversation with a client.

There was still more to do.

But over the weekend, I went for a walk to visit my cousin, a farm away.

While we were sitting together, their parakeet landed on my shoulder.

We laughed. I stayed still and glanced over at the parakeet. And for a few moments, I wasn’t thinking about what I needed to do when I got back to El Huizachal.

I was just there, enjoying what was happening.

Later at the house, family came over.

We sat under a huisache tree, had a couple of Coronas with chips and salsa, and played Imposter.

After they left, I walked around the property. I could see the dark clouds to the east and a few stars to the west.

On Monday, the projects began again.

Maybe taking some time for ourselves does not always require clearing the calendar or going somewhere far away.

Sometimes it is simply not rushing past what is already before us. Or the people who are there with us.
