Retiring Today & Looking Forward to Más

Writer: Gustavo LiraGustavo Lira

Today, I retire from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

After 27 years of meaningful work, I leave with deep gratitude for the friendships, experiences, and lessons gained along the way.

Contributing to the protection of consumers’ credit rights and the stability of our financial system has been an honor. Working alongside dedicated colleagues who embody the Reserve System’s values—respect, responsibility, integrity, and operational excellence—has been truly rewarding and the reason why I remained at the Fed.

Leading up to today, I was humbled when colleagues shared how I made a difference in their careers and personal and professional growth. Hearing their words reinforced the positive impact we can have on someone, without even knowing it.

Among the greatest lessons I take with me are the power of self-advocacy, the strength in resilience, and the profound value of serving a mission greater than oneself. This has only deepened my belief in our shared responsibility to contribute to the greater good.

Now, a new chapter begins.

It’s time for more adventures—traveling with family and friends (including motorcycling the rim of the Himalayas with a great friend), standing in solidarity and speaking out against injustice and policies that target vulnerable groups, and dedicating more time to coaching across the U.S. and internationally. I’ll also be exploring teaming up with a full-service consulting, training and coaching firm to expand my reach and impact, building on what I’ve learned and shared throughout my career.

I look forward to what’s ahead and to continuing this journey called vida.
